This mentoring program provides the members with a confidential and interactive forum to expand their business knowledge, develop and apply critical skills, and reach their business potential. Entrepreneurs commit to this program because they are willing to give and take advice, openly and honestly; to share ideas, brainstorm, network, and form a mutual support system of encouragement and accountability with other business owners in the early stages of starting their businesses. Participants arrive with issues and challenges and leave with resources, ideas and practical solutions.

Carla Jones '03, a local entrepreneur journalist and publicist, is one of the featured artist at a new art exhibit in the Jax Makerspace Gallery on the first floor of the downtown Jacksonville Public Library. The exhibit is called "Kesha: A Black Female Experience of Identity and Race." The exhibition includes works from 14 local artists, including photographers, sculptors, videographers and artists in textile and 2D art. "Kesha is a name, but who is she and what does she look like? In this exhibition, artists produce works exploring black femininity, ethnicity, identity and stereotypes. Kesha is visible, yet invisible. She is everywhere and nowhere. Discover Kesha." The exhibit opened February 1 and runs through April 23.

The award is presented to remarkable film and television professionals under the age of 35. Honorees must excel in their specific craft, show progressive advancement in their careers, serve as role models and stand out as potential stars of the future. "I'd like to share that going to Bolles was a culture shock for me." Jones said, "Being an African American student from a middle income family, initially, I mainly saw differences between me and the majority of my fellow classmates. But, my mother, Yvonne Jones, told me "it's your school as much as it is anyone else's." And that gave me the confidence to not limit what I thought I could achieve."

Carla Jones graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in Communications. She over ten years of broadcast media experience including work for Mid-Florida Public Radio, World News Now with Diane Sawyer and Good Morning America. Carla is currently an entertainment reporter for CW17’s I Know Jax. As an independent journalist, she has covered events such as McDonal’d 365 Black Awards and Oprah’s The Life Want Tour. Jones is the owner of her own business, Carla Mechele Media, where she uses her experience in media and marketing to tell the stories of her clients.
